Hiring a skilled dancer, who is also a wonderful entertainer, is a must for creating the best possible show. The performance should create a memorable experience for all who attend. Frequently Asked Questions:

How long is the show? 

     A typical show is 20-30 minutes. Much time beyond this may be over kill and may not be appreciated by your guests. If you feel your event  needs more than this, adding a second show in the evening is an option to consider. Dancer(s) may use veil, sword, finger cymbals, candles and/or cane. Audience participation may be incorporated into the show, when appropriate. All shows are family friendly and appropriate for children. In fact, they often love to dane.

Will she bring music? 

     The dancer will bring her music on a CD or iPod. The music will consist of an entire Arabic set. Anything from classic Arabic to modern pop (Turkish, Greek and/or Bollywood are also available) depending on your needs. The venue is responsible for providing a sound system loud enough to fill the room. Typically a boom box is not loud enough. *In some cases the dancer can provide a sound system if arranged prior to the event.

Is tipping appropriate? 

     Yes. Tipping is always appreciated and actually adds to the show. It is commonly done in a "money shower" over the dancer's head or gently tossed onto the floor as the dancer approaches.

What if I need more than one belly dancer?

How far in advance should I make the booking? 

     Sooner is always better. Often times, dancers book months in advance. To ensure the best belly dancer(s) in the area are available for your event, book as soon as you can.

Performance Fees~

Hampton Roads ~

     Classic Belly Dance Show~ A solo dancer will perform for between 20-30 minutes. The performance will begin with a "show" section during which the dancer may use props to enhance the audience's experience. The second part of the show will include audience interaction and participation, where appropriate.       

Southside (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake)      $200

                    (Portsmouth, Suffolk)                                     $225

Peninsula  (Newport News, Hampton)                          $250

                    (Yorktown, Williamsburg, Gloucester)     $250

     Performance and Lesson ~ This will typically start out with a short performance followed by a 30-40 minute lesson for all of your guests to enjoy. Kalaa will provide hip scarves to be used during the class session.   Minimum $200 (or $15 per student, whichever is higher)

     Weddings ~ We know you want your special day to be perfect! Kalaa is happy to help you plan all the details of the wedding performance (coordinating costume colors, special songs, guests to dance with...). Extra time is always allowed for weddings because we know that uncontrollable events can effect your schedule. $300-$400

     Saleema Habiba/Group Performances ~ Need more than one belly dancer? Group rates start at $350 for a duet. Call Kalaa to discuss the entertainment needs for your event. 757-842-0909 

     Restaurants and Nightclubs ~ A discounted rate is available for venues that have dancing on a regular basis. Please call Kalaa at 757-842-0909 for pricing.
